Spc. Carter A. Gamble of Seymour, Ind., grew up in Georgia and attended Shaw High School graduating from Heidelberg High School, Heidelberg, Germany in 2000. He was a member of Edgewood United Methodist Church. He was serving his country actively in the United States Army and his first tour was just after his mother died. While there, a fire destroyed tents and uniforms used by Gamble and some of his fellow soldiers. The tents they were living in were burned, and they lost everything they had. He re-enlisted knowing he would be returned to Iraq but he had a goal. He wanted to stay in the military and become a staff sergeant. He died in Duraiya, Iraq, of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire at age 24.
