Asturian Monarch. Born the son of Fruela Duc de Cantabria, and Munia de Alava. He was the nephew of Alfonso I of Asturias and his wife, Ermesinda, daughter of the first king of the Asturians. In 768 he was elected king by the Asturian aristocracy after his predecessor, Fruela, the Cruel assassinated his brother and was then, in turn, assassinated. His reign was relatively uneventful, save for a short lived peasant rebellion which was put down. Legend has it that he negotiated a peace with the Moors who held sway in the lands to his south by an exchange of brides. He reigned about six years, when he died of apparently natural causes. The records of the era make no mention of him having a wife or children. He was succeeded by his cousin Silo.
