Linwood Davis Faunce was born February 4, 1923, in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts to Davis Collins and Jennie May (Adams) Faunce. On May 31, 1944 he married his sweetheart Marva Penney in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Together he and Marva produced daughters, Kay Ardyth, Mae Doreen and Carol Lee and sons Davis Collins and Terrance Linwood.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as an aerial gunner on a B-17 bomber crew. He flew 25 dangerous combat missions over Europe. For his valor, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, the Air Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he re-enlisted in the Air Force and received numerous other valor citations. He retired from the Air Force on August 31, 1964 after serving 22 1/2 years.

After retiring from the Air Force, he began his second career with the Utah Department of Transportation working in the Accounting and Auditing Department. He retired from there in 1987 and moved to Buhl, Idaho.
