Actor. Born Bernard Lawson, he was best known for his role of Dr. Bombay on the 1960s ABC sitcom "Bewitched." He was also well known for his role of the bumbling Colonel Crittendon on the CBS sitcom "Hogan's Heroes" of the same decade. He was the son of two stage actors and started his acting career at the age of 18 months. His career was interrupted when he served in the Royal Navy during World War II. After the war, he resumed his acting career and got his start on television in the British television series "Sixpenny Corner" in 1955. Besides "Bewitched" and "Hogan's Heroes," he would go on to appear in such television series as "Combat!" "Make Room For Daddy," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Andy Griffith Show," "F Troop," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Columbo," "M*A*S*H," "The Jeffersons," "Knight Rider," and "Murder, She Wrote." He also appeared or provided the voice in many films during his career with such credits as "The Mummy" (1999), "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" (1977), "Arnold" (1973), and "The Rescuers" (1977). In 1958, he appeared in an uncredited role on the film "A Night to Remember," which was about the sinking of the Titanic and, 39 years later, portrayed Colonel Gracie in the James Cameron film "Titanic."
