Civil War Union Soldier. He enlisted as a Private in Company A, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 5, 1861. He served a full three years with the regiment, and was honorably mustered out at the expiration of his enlistment on September 16, 1864. He then re-enlisted in the Union Army, becoming a Sergeant in Company F of the 9th United States Veteran Volunteer Infantry.

After the war he ran a livery stable in Philadelphia, and then lived in Ambler. He built and ran the Wyndham Hotel in downtown Ambler, which is today a restaurant.

On March 4, 1904 he filed for a United States Army Pension (Application #1509545, Certificate #1079057). On December 3, 1905 his wife, Elizabeth Cooper, filed for a United States Army Widow's Pension (Application #540127, Certificate #612526).

He married Elizabeth Campbell in Ambler on April 26, 1870.
