Sergeant Patrick Rust was a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq. He had served in the Army since May 30, 2002, undergoing basic training from June to August 2002 at Fort Sill, Okla., and advanced individual training at Fort Bliss, Texas, from Aug., 2 through Oct. 2, 2002. He served in Iraq from April 22, 2003, through Nov. 22, 2004, and had been stationed at Fort Drum since May 22, 2005, serving in Afghanistan from February 2006 through January. Born a son of Rodney P. and Judith A. Poirier Rust, he was a 2001 graduate of Edwards-Knox Central School, where he was a member of FFA. He was a 10th Mountain Division soldier had been missing since March 16th. He was last seen on Arsenal Street in the city of Watertown. Sgt. Rust's body was discovered Sept. 16 off Old Rome State Road in the town of Hounsfield. Buried with military honors. He was 23.
