August J. Parker was born April 12, 1921 in Washington DC, a son of Louis E. and Mabel Weigman Parker. He attended Washington schools and was a machinist apprentice before enlisting in the Army in 1943.

He was a veteran of World War II and was wounded twice during service. He received a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. He was involved in the D-Day invasion at Normandy France and was discharged in 1945.

Mr. Parker was a civilian machinist for almost 40 years at U.S. Naval shipyards at Mare Island and Hunters Point, California, and Portsmouth, NH where he retired in 1985.

He married Adeline Rossi on Nov 15, 1949 in Maryland. The couple lived in Gouverneur for more than 15 years. Mrs. Parker died Dec 17, 2000.
