Pilot. Recognized as the oldest licensed American aircraft pilot at age 99. Born in Lamont, Oklahoma Territory, he began flying in 1929. Although his pilot's license did not expire, his required health certificate lapsed in 2001, the same year the Guineness World Records Book listed him with the title of oldest plane pilot. Two days before his 103rd birthday, he received the Federal Aviation Administration's Golden Wings Award. Courtesy of a long-time friend who had bought it and took the airplane aloft for him, he last flew his beloved 1976 Cessna Skylane 182 about one month before he died of natural causes in Longmont, Colorado.
