Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as Sergeant Major, Field and Staff, 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 25, 1861. On August 1, 1862 he was reduced to Private in Company B. On August 30, 1862 he was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant of Company A, 4th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. On November 26, 1862 he was advanced to Adjutant, Field and Staff. On March 5, 1863 he was promoted to Captain and commander of Company E. He served then until he was dismissed on November 22, 1864.
