Josephine Lovisone came through Ellis Island as a child and for three decades helped her husband run a Dry Creek Valley grape and prune ranch. She was born in northern Italy to parents who brought their family to America, settling in Oakland, about 80 years ago. She was married for 50 years to Mario Lovisone, who was employed for many years as a concrete worker at the Alameda Naval Air Station. While still living in Oakland, they purchased a ranch in the Dry Creek Valley, west of Healdsburg. They came to the ranch as time allowed until 1970, when Mario Lovisone retired from civil service. The couple moved onto the ranch that same year. Mario Lovisone worked the ranch with his wife's help until his death in 1983. Josephine Lovisone, the mother of three, enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, crocheting and visiting at the Council on Aging's day program at St. John's Church in Healdsburg. She lived the past eight months at a care home in Windsor. She is survived by her daughters, Dolores Lovisone House of Santa Rosa and Vicki Lovisone Wallace of Healdsburg; her son, Edward Lovisone of Hayward; and six grandchildren.
