Passing of Old-Time Citizen

Death of Stephen Bibler Occurred at His Home Wednesday Night of Last Week.

Stephen Bibler, one of the old-time residents of Dexter, died at his home in this city June 12, 1913, at the age of 77 years. He had been quite feeble for a long time. Last winter he received a fall which confined him to his bed all winter, and he was never able to be out except to ride around a little, being partially paralyzed. While his death was not expected, yet it was no surprise to the people of the community.

Stephen Bibler came to Dexter in 1876 and was engaged in business continuously from that time until a short time before his death. For many years he occupied the same stand, a frame building on Main street, and had the misfortune to be burned out in one of the fires that visited Dexter in recent years.

Mr. Bibler was prominent in Dexter affairs from the time that he first located here. He was one of the staunch supporters of the Methodist church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, also a member of the A.O.U.W., in which order he carred $2,000 insurance.

He was born in 1836 in Fairfield, Ohio. In 1863 in enlisted in the army, being a member of Company I, 12th regiment, Indiana volunteer infantry. He served to the end of the war and was with Sherman in his march to the sea.

In 1865 he was married in Indiana to Miss Ellen Dixon. To this union three children were born, two of whom are now living, L.J. of Elgin, Oregon, and Will, of Isabelle, Kansas. Augusta Bibler Bunton died in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

In 1885 he married Miss Florence Littleton in Winfield, Kans., and to this union five children were born, Ralph B., of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Blaine Maurer, Lola, Hazel and Mark of Dexter.

All of the children were present at the funeral except L.J. of Elgin, Ore. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Saturday, conducted by Rev. J.W. Niell, assisted by Rev. W.C. Wheat. The services were largely attended.

Thus passed a good citizen from Dexter and from this earth. Mr. Bibler was a kindhearted man who alwasy strove to do his full duty, as a father, as a neighbor, as a citizen.
