James was the first of 5 children born to Alva A 'Tiny' and May E (Regan) Bostic.

He married Helen Wentz on January 22, 1966 at the University of Chicago Chapel in Chicago (Cook), IL. They had no children and divorced in February 1978.

James then married Barbara Ann Williams on March 17, 1979 at First Presbyterian Church in Maple Plain (Wright), MN. They had 2 children: Jeffrey James and Jennifer Christiana.

At the time of his death, James was the CEO of NordicTrack, headquarters located in Chaska (Carver), MN. NordicTrack was a leading fitness business, manufacturing cross-country ski exercise equipment until the patent on the flywheel expired, along with other exercise equipment and retail stores.

Jim Bostic, the 55-year-old executive who led NordicTrack Inc. from sales of $20 million in 1987 to $455 million in 1994, was killed in a car accident Friday morning in Watertown while driving his children to school.

Bostic was driving south on Carver County Rd. 10 when he was broadsided at the Hwy. 7 intersection at 7:35 a.m. by a car driven by Janet Ludden, of Excelsior. Ludden, Bostic and his children, Jennifer, 10, and Jeffrey, 15, were taken to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, where Bostic died. He had been wearing a seat belt.

The children were treated for cuts and bruises and released. Ludden, 42, was hospitalized in stable condition.
