The photo to the right is PFC Scrappy who flew missions during World War II. Scrappy and the crew were KIA when they were shot down. He looks a lot like Aaron's dog and the same name too. Take a minute and please honor PFC Scrappy Shapiro
AARON'S PET
Born in Lakeville, MN, Scrappy was a male Jack Russell Terrier that loved humans and loved to run and play with his best friend, my son Aaron. My late son Aaron was 8 years old and wanted to have a dog. We had learned that Jack Russell Terrier's made fine pets and loved children. So I told Aaron that we would get him one. So in December of 1992 we took Aaron and went to see a breeder that had some puppies and we let Aaron pick out his dog. There was a litter of six to choose from.
After a while Aaron picked out a male that kept kissing him and licking his face. That puppy just kept coming back to Aaron and jumping on him and playing with him. Aaron was lying on the floor and the puppy that we would later name "Scrappy" would push his face into Aaron's. Aaron would laugh so hard. I think we all knew that was soon to be our family dog. That turned out to be what I think was the best dog I ever had. Scrappy turned out to be so loving, playful and smart. It was Aaron who came up with the name Scrappy. He named him that because he was always trying to eat any food he came upon. We know Aaron would slip him a snack from time to time and it wasn't always puppy treats. So Aaron said lets call him Scrappy he eats all the scraps I give him, so "Scrappy" it was. The two of them grew up together and played all the time. Aaron even had him at school one day for "show and tell" and all the kids in the class loved him. Scrappy was full of love and he loved to always lay on your lap and have his tummy rubbed. He was always a lap dog. Scrappy loved everyone and would always greet our friends with his tail a wagging. Scrappy never missed a night that he wasn't sleeping in bed with Aaron. Scrappy spent many weekends in the summer camping with Aaron and enjoyed that too. He was a very big part of our family and he and Aaron were best friends. They truly bounded from the first day.
In 2001 we lost our son Aaron. Over the years since Aaron's passing Scrappy has gone up to Aaron's room daily to look for him. There were times that he would let out a little cry. He knew that Aaron was not around and never gave up looking for him and hoping he would find his best friend. Scrappy was sad and depressed you could see it in his eyes when we first lost Aaron. To this day I don't think Scrappy ever got over that.
In the later years as Scrappy got older and it was time for bed Aaron's mom had to lift him into the bed as he was too old to jump that high. Scrappy was well behaved and was only in a kennel for a month when we first got him. He was easy to house train and we never used a kennel again.
This is a tough loss for Aaron's mom and me. Aaron's mom took great care of Scrappy after Aaron passed away. I know this is really hard on her as she has cared for him all these years. This was a big part of Aaron and now that is gone.
I'm honored to have Scrappy listed here and I know in my heart that Scrappy and Aaron are together once again enjoying fun times. Their love and bonding was a God sent gift and it's only right that they should be together now in heaven for eternity. God Bless both of them. Aaron & Scrappy are so very special and are missed and will not be forgotten.
