Born at home: 2 Grange Cottages, Norbury Road.
Eldest child of Ethel and James Kirby (Snr).

From 1929 to 1934 Served in India & Burma Campaign for 4 years, The Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment - Rank: Lance Corporal.
Married Vera Louise Killick on the 3rd of April 1937 at Croydon Registry Office. They would have 7 children together.
In 1938 - James was awarded medals for his service in WW2, unable to find any documentation regarding this. 4th Battalion (63rd Searchlight) - SERVICE NUMBER:
6087567 - Royal Artillery and Kings Own Royal Regiment - SERVICE NUMBER: 21130742.
In 1945 James returned home from War. He met his first daughter Daphne for the first time, as he was away at war when she was born. They lived at 167 Morland Road, Croydon, Surrey, England.
Served with the West Surrey Queen's Regiment in WW2 - he served with his Dad James William Kirby Senior and brother William "Charlie"
After the war James had many occupations: Builders Labourer, House Painter (Journey Man) and Asbestos Sprayer, which would ultimately end his life prematurely.
Passed away due to asbestosis at May Day Hospital. An inquest was held on the 21st of February 1963. However the result was natural causes.
James was cremated on the 11th of February 1963 at Saint John the Baptist in Croydon. His ashes were scattered in location 75/9 - at the then Mitcham Road Cemetery.
It was believed he was interred in a cremation wall, War Grave. However in 2014 when I first visited Croydon, some 51 years after James' passing and checked the cemetery records, I was informed he was scattered unwitnessed / no family present. Most likely scattered by a cemetery worker.
