Iowa Governor. A native of Phelps, Iowa, Sherman served as the Governor of his home state from 1882 to 1886. A veteran of the Civil War, he also served as a State Court Judge in Iowa in 1865, and as the Iowa State Auditor from 1875 to 1881.
