Iowa Governor. John Hammill served as the lieutenant governor of Iowa from January 13, 1921, until he assumed the role of acting governor in August of 1923 because of medical problems of Governor N. E. Kendall. Hamill then served as the elected governor of Iowa from January 15, 1925, to January 15, 1931. He also served as county attorney of Hancock County, Iowa, from 1902 to 1908, and then in the Iowa Senate, prior to becoming lieutenant governor.
