He was a Radio Officer on a Merchant Ship SS. Pacific, which was sunk between Rockall and Iceland on 1st March 1941, when hit by torpedoes from a German Submarine.
The ship had become a "straggler" due to steering fault in heavy weather. Of the 35 on board, there was only 1 survivor.
