Calvin G. Booth, 87, of Maryville, passed away Sept. 17, 2013.
He was formerly of St. Albans, W.Va. He was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Louisa, Ky. He was married to Betty Patton Booth for 48 years before her death. He moved to Tennessee where he married his wife Barbara and resided in Greenback.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Henry G. and Dixie F. Booth; son, Elliott Russell Booth; stepson, Timothy Michael McKeehan; brothers, Everett Booth, Harold Booth, James Booth, and Noah Booth, sisters, Launa Booth Stratton, Irene Booth Greene, and Ruth Booth Lawson.
He is survived by his son, Mark Booth of Huntington, W.Va.; wife, Barbara McKeehan Booth; stepson, John Stephen McKeehan, both of Greenback; sisters, Alma Booth Branham of Fairborn, Ohio, Gladys Knight of Huntington, W.Va., two granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Louisa, Ky., where he grew up. He loved the Lord and enjoyed singing and talking about Him. He worked with the youth group in his church and enjoyed visiting the sick and the shut-ins. His hobbies were golfing and fishing. He enjoyed going fishing on the Tennessee lakes and camping with his Tennessee family. He left high school before the end of his senior year to join the Army Air Force during WWII. At the end of his senior year, he was granted a leave of absence to attend his graduation where he was salutatorian of his class. After his tour of duty he returned home to earn a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Kentucky. He then worked with Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. in Charleston, W.Va., for 38 years, where he was a supervisor in compressor engineering. He retired as a supervisory electrical design engineer and worked for five years for the Corp. He belonged to the Grand Lodge of Louisa, Ky., and was a Master Mason of Apperson Lodge No. 195. In 1991, he was commissioned admiral of the Cherry River Navy of The Line of W.Va., by the president of the Cherry Navy Inc. In the same year he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.
His family wished to thank the doctors, nurses, and hospice at the University of Tennessee Hospital for their loving care, also thanks to Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville for their arrangements, Med One, Rural Metro and the Greenback Fire Dept. for transport. Thanks to his caregiver in his home, Angie Porter for her kindness and tender loving care, for all we will be forever grateful.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Louisa, Ky., conducted by the Louisa Masons. Visitation will be prior to the service at the church and burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Louisa.
