Harold Eugene Booth, Sr.

Harold Eugene booth, Sr., 82 of Clarksdale, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, TN. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Clarksdale. Rev. Ed Woodall and Rev. Lee Zuehlke officiated with burial in Oakridge Cemetery.

Mr. Booth was born September 5, 1923, in Lexington, Mississippi. He was the son of the late Annie Hammett Booth and John Russell Booth. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and received his BS degree in agricultural engineering from Mississippi State College.

He served in the armed services in World War II as a radar specialist in Newfoundland.

He began his career in 1949 in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, as director of the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service. He was employed with Lewis Grocery Company of Indianola as an agricultural sales representative.

In 1954, upon coming to Clarksdale, he worked for Niagara Chemical Company and later for Coahoma Chemical Company as a farm chemicals sales representative. In 1973 he joined Sun Oil Company as the local manager. He also farmed for 16 years at Goodhue Farms before his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Booth is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Barnett Booth, of Clarksdale; two daughters, Gail Jones and husband Robert M. Jones of Jackson, and Claire Barksdale and husband Rhesa H. Barksdale of Jackson; two sons, Harold Eugene Booth, Jr. and wife Ellen of Clarksdale, and Jeffrey Alan Booth and wife Renee of Madison; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Susie B. Minyard of Lexington, and was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Booth of Tunica.
