Cpl. Nathan R. Anderson, 22, of Howard, Ohio, died Nov. 12, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., the result of enemy action in Al An bar Province, Iraq.

Anderson was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regi ment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Cpl. Anderson was born in Zanesville, Ohio May 22, 1982 to Mary M. (Anderson) Shaw and Richard Anderson. He grew up in Apple Valley of Howard, Ohio. Nathan "Nate" attended East Knox Schools and graduat ed in 2001. As a kid growing up, Nate enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowboarding and bull riding. From the time Nate was 10 years old, he had a dream of becoming a Marine and realized that dream in June of 2001, immediately following his graduation from high school. Over the following years, his training took him to 11 different countries and he was deployed on his final mission to Iraq in 2004.

His family recalls the pride that Nathan displayed as a re sult of serving his country and his drive to be the best Marine and son he could be. Nathan once told his family that a "thank you" coming from another human being that did not even share the same language, made it all worth while.

He is survived by his parents, Neil and Mary Shaw of Howard; his father, Richard H. Anderson; sisters, Margaret M. Anderson of Westlake, Kelly N. (Maurice) Dallas of Howard, and Traci M. Shaw of Columbus; brother, N. Adam Shaw of Columbus.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at the North Bend Church with Pastor Patrick Bailey officiating. Nathan will be laid to rest at North Bend Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 from 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Nathan's home church, North Bend Church of the Brethren, Danville, Ohio 43014. Published in the Akron Beacon Journal on 11/18/2004.
