Joseph was a graduate of the Mohawk Valley Community College Police Academy and joined the New Hartford Police Department in May 2000. He was a correction officer at the Oneida County Jail from 1997 to 2000.∼Joseph Corr was a City Police Officer for New Hartford, New York. He served 6 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 30. Two suspects had just robbed a Jewelery Store on Commercial Drive in New Hartford. They were escaping when Officer Corr arrived to the robbery in progress call. Officer Corr and other Officers joined the pursuit of the suspects. Giving chase for about 3 miles on Route # 5, the suspects car crashed into a gas pump at a Service Station. Both suspects began to flee on foot. Three Officers chased one suspect, while Officer Corr chased the other suspect. During the foot chase, the second suspect turned and opened fire on Officer Corr. He then carjacked a vehicle and fled. The first suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with second degree murder. The suspect who shot and killed Officer Corr was tracked to a house in Chester City, Pennsylvania. Members of the United States Marshall Service, Chester City Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Delaware County Police Department, surrounded the house. The suspect opened fire, in the exchange of gunfire, a United States Deputy Marshall was wounded. The suspect was shot and killed. Officer Corr was survived by his wife, infant daughter, and parents.
