Deputy Sheriff Suzanne Hopper was shot and killed after responding to a call of a window being shot out at a trailer park in Enon.

Deputy Hopper had served with the Clark County Sheriff's Office for 12 years. She is survived by her husband and two children.

HOPPER, Suzanne M. (Waughtel) 40, of Springfield, died in the Line of Duty on January 1, 2011. She was born November 11, 1970 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Charles L. and Bonnie A. (Herman) Bauer. She served on the Clark County Sheriff's Office for twelve years, where she received numerous commendations, citations and awards. Her passion was working with local Charities and service organizations. Survivors include her parents Charles and Bonnie Bauer; husband Matthew Hopper; daughter, Emily Bauer; son, Charlie Waughtel; step-son, Cole Hopper; step-daughter, Madeleine Hopper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annette and Robert Bauer-English; Marie and Eric Lundgren; mother-in-law, Victoria Hopper; father-in-law, Joseph Kleehammer; brothers-in-law, Glenn Hopper, Joel (Cheri) Kleehammer, Joseph (Aida) Kleehammer; sister-in-law, Brandy Hopper; nieces, Lauren Hopper and Kate Hopper; nephew, Nathaniel Hopper, also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the First Christian Church, 3638 Middle-Urbana Road, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday January 7, 2011. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery in North Hampton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Suzanne Waughtel Hopper Memorial Fund at any Huntington National Bank location. The family is being served by LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME
