Johnny, 48, of Beaufort, SC, formerly of Charlotte, went to be with his Lord Thursday, January 19, 2006.
A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, at Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. John Harrill of Hickory Grove Baptist Church will officiate. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
Born December 1, 1957 in Charlotte, NC, he was a son of John Benjamin Bost , Sr. and Jean McCaskill Bost . Johnny was a 1977 graduate of Independence High School and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. During his 23 years in the military, he became a specialist in Reconnaissance and was a Water Safety/Survival Instructor and Drill Instructor. MSgt. Bost even taught Drill Instructors to be Drill Instructors. He received numerous commendations, medals and ribbons, including the Navy Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Southwest Asia Service Metal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Artic Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Meritorious Mast, Letter of Appreciation, Rifle expert Badge and Pistol Marksmanship Badge. MSgt. Bost retired from the Marines in 2001. He was a veteran of Desert Storm. MSgt. Bost also ran marathons while in the service.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Preston Bost.
In addition to his parents, Johnny is survived by his sister, Valerie Lovelace and her husband, David, and a nephew, Preston Lovelace, all of Charlotte.
