Nobility. Although Lorenzo di Piero de’ Medici, Duke of Urbino accepted him as his natural son it is quite possible that he was son of Giulio de Medici. He married Margarete of Parma, an illegitimate daughter of Emperor Charles V in 1536 but remained with his mistress Taddea Malaspina who had previously born him his two only children. Alessandro was murdered a few months after his wedding by a distant cousin, Lorenzino de Medici. He was the last regent of Florence from the senior branch of the Medici and was succeeded by Cosimo I.
