Col. Ellery Farmer, 84, US Army, Retired, a veteran of three wars and the Mexican Border Campaign and a resident of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Florida since his retirement in 1943, died Sunday in a local nursing home after a period of declining health.
Funeral services and interment will take place in the Arlington National Cemetery and Thos. Shepherd Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
A native of LaGrange, MO, Col Farmer was the son of the late John and Winfree Ellery Farmer. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy in 1903.
He served in the Mexican Border Campaign in 1913-14, in the Spanish-American War and in World War I and World War II. His military career of 40 years also brought service in stations in the United States, the Phillippines, Hawaii, Germany, France and the Canal Zone.
He was a Baptist, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Missouri Society, National Genealogical Society, American Philatelic Society and of the University Club of New York for 27 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Grace Giffing Farmer; a brother, John Farmer of Vermillion, S.D. and several nieces and nephews.
