Virgil D. Kleinknecht, 58, Bismarck, died Feb. 10, 2012, at St. Alexius Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 1470 S. Washington St., Bismarck. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

Virgil, the son of Emanuel and Lydia (Hust) Kleinknecht was born on March 9, 1953, at Gackle Health Center. On April 4, 1961, the family moved to Jamestown where Virgil graduated from Jamestown High School in 1971.

Virgil married Joann Backhaus in 1975 in Jamestown. They moved to Bismarck in 1977 and in 1978, Virgil began working for Bridgeman as a truck driver for 32 years, retiring in 2010.

His passion for restoring cars was widely known through the numerous cars he restored.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Joann, Bismarck; his daughter, Cari (Casey) Thompson, Bismarck; his son, Kelly (Cameo) Kleinknecht, Pullman, Wash.; his grandchildren, Mataya and Vanessa, both of Bismarck; and his sisters, Evangeline (Everrett) Aljoe, Maple Valley, Wash., and twin sister, Virginia (Steve) McCallum, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Elroy.
