Major League baseball player. He was a relief pitcher for thirteen seasons (1950 to 1962) with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Mets. He was a member of five National League Pennant-winning teams (1953, 1955, 1956, 1959 Dodgers and 1960 Pirates) and three World Championship Teams (1955, 1959 Dodgers, 1960 Pirates). Labine was named to two National League All-Star Teams (1956, 1957). In 13 World Series games, Labine won 2 and lost 2 with a 3.16 era while pitching in 31 innings. In 513 career regular season games, Labine won 77 and lost 56 with 96 saves and a 3.63 lifetime era.
