Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company K, 23rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 13, 1862. He was wounded in action on December 13, 1862 at the Battle of Fredericksburg, and was discharged due to disability at the Harewood United States Army Hospital in Washington, DC on February 19,1 863.

He filed for a US Army Invalid Veteran Pension on January 12, 1864 (Application #38780, Certificate #29926).

On May 10, 1900 his wife, Emma Andrews, filed for a US Army Widow's Pension (Application #718965, Certificate #506684).
