Staff Sergeant Roland O. Boatright was a soldier of Company A, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, participating in the invasion of southern Sicily (operation Husky). D-Day was 10 July 1943. S/Sgt Boatright was killed on 10 July 1943. He was first buried in the small 180th Regimental cemetery # 1. Two weeks later his remains were exhumed and reburied in the temporary American Cemetery GELA in plot-grave D-48-568. Date of burial was 4 August 1943.
After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in a cemetery in the United States.
