"Funeral services with Rev. H. Nelson Zimmerman officiating, were held at the Williams Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon for Pvt. David E. Clapp, 25, of Cornersburg, who died last Wednesday at camp Van Dorn, Miss., following an accident in which he was crushed by falling sand and gravel. Pvt. Clapp was born in Youngstown, April 24, 1919, a son of Ida Clapp and the late David Clapp. He entered military service Jan. 15, 1942, being assigned to the heavy artillery. He served 23 months in the Aleutian Islands and saw action at Atu and Kiska. He came home May 18 returned to Camp Van Dorn. His mother, a sister and a brother survive."
