George K. Pugh, 79 of 10 Mt. Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro, died at 6 a.m. Friday, July 5, in the Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg. He had been ill for the past several months and entered the center April 3.
Born Jan 15, 1912, in Pottsville, he was the son of the late George L. and Mary (Keller) Pugh.
He was a resident of Waynesboro since 1946, living at the present residence for the past 32 years.
Mr. Pugh graduated with the Schuykill Haven Senior High School Class of 1930. He also attended Juniata College.
Mr. Pugh served with the U. s. Army during Woirld War II.
He retired in 1974 from the Nabisco Brands Inc. in Williamsport, Md., where he had been employed as a salesman for 46 years.
He and his wife, Ada V. (Bressler) Pugh, were married Dec 19, 1932.
Mr. Pugh was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
He was a member of the BPO Elks, No. 173 and its past exalted ruler, a district deputy grand exalted ruler, a district president of the South Central District, a ritualistic judge, and a ritualistic chairman for the state of Pennsylvania.
He also was a member of the American Legion Joe Stickell Post No. 15, the Eagles Club Inc., and the AARP No 2977, all of Waynesboro and the national AARP.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters Patricia P. Shank and Barbara Stein, both of Fairfield, and Mrs. Nedra Fowler of Germantown; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Miriam Springer of Clearwater, Fl., Mrs. Helen Painter of West Chester and Mrs. June Loux of Summers Point, N.J.; and one brother, Edward Pugh of Pottsville.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one grandson.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Snyder Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger H. Mentzer officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
