Musician, Actor. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. he was the lead singer and guitarist of "The Jeff Healey Band." Formed in 1985 with bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen, the trio had numerous hit songs and albums during the 1980s, 1990s, and into the 2000s. Some of their best-known recordings are "Angel Eyes," "Cruel Little Number," "My Little Girl," "Confidence Man," "Stuck In The Middle With You," "Lost In Your Eyes," "How Long Can A Man Be Strong," "As The Years Go By," "Me And My Crazy Self," "I Tried," and a cover of The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." They were also nominated for the "Best Instrumental," Grammy Award for the single "Hideaway," and in 1990 they won the "Entertainer of the Year," Juno Award. He was born one of three children as Norman Jeffrey Healey in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Percy Alexander "Bud" Healey (1934-2019), and his wife Yvonne M. Ward Healey (1938-1994), on March 25, 1966. Blind since the age of one because of retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes, he taught himself how to play the guitar with the instrument laid across his lap. He was known for his mean blues and rock guitar playing, but also as a live jazz performer on clarinet and trumpet. He played with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Harrison, B.B. King, and Deep Purple, and is credited with developing the careers of musicians Terri Hazelton and Amanda Marshall. In addition to his recording career, he was also a sometime actor, appearing in episodes of the television series "Due South, the television mini-series, "Jake's Progress," and the film "Road House" (1989, with Patrick Swayze). He was also widely known for his vast collection of over 30,000 78 rpm records, which he played regularly on his Canadian Broadcasting Corporation or CBC radio program, "My Kind of Jazz," and again when he moved his show to CJRT-FM (later JAZZ FM91), in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For many years he ran his own club, Healey's, on Bathurst Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, before moving to a larger location and renaming it Jeff Healey's Roadhouse. He passed away following a lengthy battle with lung cancer in his native Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and he was buried in Park Lawn Cemetery in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. He was married to Krista Miller Healey in 1992, but they divorced in 1998. The couple had one child together, a daughter named Rachel. He was married to Cristie Hall Healey, from 2004 until his death on March 2, 2008. The couple had one child together, a son named Derek. His many honors include having his last album, "Mess Of Blues," win in The 8th Annual Independent Music Awards for Best Blues Album in 2009, and the Woodford Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, being renamed the Jeff Healey Park in his memory in 2011. He was also posthumously inducted into the Terry Fox Hall of Fame in 2009, he was posthumously inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2014, and he was posthumously inducted into the Mississauga Music Walk of Fame in 2016.
