You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she's gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

*****.......*****......*****......*****

An early recollection of Jessica was when she was only 2 years old. She was visiting me with the rest of the family. She asked me for a cookie and I said Ok but you have to eat it in the kitchen. The next thing I knew, she was walking around the living room - dropping crumbs every where. I said to her, "Didn't I tell you to eat that in the kitchen?" I led her back to the kitchen table and told her to sit there and eat the cookie. Boy! If looks could have killed, I wouldn't be here telling you the story! Her pout was so cute! She listened to me and sat there to eat her cookie.

My sister Rita remembered when Jessica was about 10 years old, she looked very sad and so she asked Jessica what was wrong. She replied, "All my brothers and sisters know how to draw and they are all good artists. I can't draw!" My sister explained that we all received some talent from God and that her brothers and sisters had received this talent from God. So she asked my sister what hers was and my sister quickly replied, "You can sing, you have a beautiful voice." And sing she did. She had a partial musical scholarship to attend Marian High School and Lincoln College. When Jessica was in the Memorial Jr. High School choir; her school competed in a National Competition in Minnesota; her school won all 10 of the major competitions. See picture on the second page of pictures for more information.

Jessica lived with her family in Lansing, Illinois. She attended Coolidge Elementary School, Memorial Junior High School, Marian Catholic High School for 2 years, and finished her last 2 years at Thornton Fractional South High School. She graduated in 1997. She graduated from Lincoln College in May of 1999.

Jessica was a very loving child, but could be very feisty when she wanted to be. Jessica attended Marian Catholic High School during her freshman and sophomore years. She was very much into God, religion, and music. One of my favorite recollections of Jessica is my sister description of one of Jessica's telephone conversations with a friend about religion. Feisty Jessica, "YOU CAN'T TELL ME ANYTHING! I GO TO A CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! I PRAY 5 TIMES A DAY!" CASE CLOSED!

While still in high school, Jessica at age 17 was the bone marrow donor for her sister Caroline on 7/9/1996.

The day before the transplant I said to Jessica and Caroline, "Let me take your picture." Caroline said, "I don't have any hair!" Jessica said, "Don't worry! I have enough hair for both of us!" Having said that, Jessica took her own hair and draped it over Caroline's head. We all got quite a laugh out of that. We have this scene documented! That picture is one of the pictures here on Jessica's site.

Caroline received her transplant at the City of Hope hospital in Duarte, California. Jessica received permission from her school to stay in California from May, 1996 through September 1996 to care for her sister. While she was there, she donated platelets quite a few times. The hospital gave her a t-shirt each time she donated. Because of this she was able to give t-shirts to her co-workers back home. She said to them, "I want you to know, I gave my blood so you could have this t-shirt!

Jessica was a student at Lincoln College in downstate Illinois. This is where she met her fiancee, John Steven Hyde Jr.
Jessica graduated from Lincoln College in May of 1999. Steve graduated in May of 2000. They had planned to marry on May 20, 2000 - a week after Steve's graduation.

On October 17, 1999 Jessica suffered an abdominal aneurysm. She was 8 months pregnant. Baby John Steven, III lived for less than 2 hours. He weighed 5 lbs - 7 ozs.; he died due to lack of oxygen.
