A Student for the Priesthood

"Donnie," as he was called by all who knew him, died at the young age of 15 while a student at St. Joseph's Junior Seminary in Mountain View, CA. The cause of death was a traumatic brain injury resulting from a diving accident in the seminary's swimming pool. Donnie complained of pain after hitting his head but did not receive medical attention. He was found dead in his bed after failing to show up for mass in the morning.

Donnie was a kind and gentle soul with a deep love for his family and a powerful faith in God. He received the calling to the priesthood at a young age and never faltered in his dedication to the vocation.

Donnie was born to Thomas Edward Norris and Kathleen Beatrice Berkeley Norris in San Francisco. He moved to Forest Knolls, Marin County, California at a young age and then returned to the City to shorten his trip to school. He then moved into the seminary dormitory and lived there full-time.

When he was nine Donnie lost his father. He was very close to his father and loved him dearly so this was a severe blow to him.

Donnie was survived by his mother, and his brothers, James Berkeley Norris and Francisco (Frank) Birkett Norris, who was a fellow student at the junior seminary at the time of Donnie's death.

His prayer card says, "You loved me in life; do not forget me in death."

Though Donnie died long before I was born I have always felt a special bond with him and appreciate the opportunity to honor him here.
