Stage, screen, and television character actor. Born Cecil Schwabe, he took an interest in acting after his return from WW I military service in the Royal Sussex Regiment, making his professional stage debut in 1922, adopting the surname Parker from his mother's maiden name. He first appeared on the London stage in 1925 and in films in 1933. He usually played men of position and influence, with an ability to appear menacing, authoritative or stuffy. Credits include "The Lady Vanishes", The Citadel" (1938), "Caesar and Cleopatra" (1945), "Under Capricorn" (1949), "Ladykillers" (1955), "23 Paces to Baker Street" (1956), "Indiscreet" (1958), "Swiss Family Robinson" (1960) and "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969). After his last movie he retired to Brighton and died of complications from bronchitis and heart problems.
