Jesse Cassius Colbert enlisted in CO. E, 38th Ohio Infantry at Defiance Ohio on Sept. 2, 1862 and was mustered out of that unit on July 12, 1865 at Louisville Kentucky. Jesse married Mary McDonald in Williams Co. Ohio on Sept. 5, 1862. My paternal gr grandfather, Jesse C. Worthington, was named for Jesse Colbert (who was his uncle). Jesse was witness to the marriage of his sister, Mary Jane, to George R. Worthington in Williams Co. Ohio on July 29, 1870 (he signed for the marriage because Mary Jane was a minor). The family first lived in Williams Co. Ohio for several years, later settling in Greene Co. Iowa in about 1877 or 1878. The family also lived in Audubon Co. Iowa and Carroll Co. Iowa. Many Colbert and related families of the area are descendants of Jesse Colbert. Tracking of census records and Civil War roster records indicates a more likely birthdate of 1839. His military marker reads 'Jesse H. (K.?) Colbert'.
