Listed as a planter on the 1860 U.S. Census, he was son of John Aiken and Margaret McConnell. Father of William Franklin Aiken, John Thomas Aiken, Sarah Jane Aiken, Mary Elizabeth Aiken, Margaret Caroline Aiken.

Enlisted 3/29/1862 at Monticello, he was mustered into "E" Co. SC 15th Infantry as a Private.
Absent, sick in hospital 6/14/1863 through 2/29/1864 Rolls.
Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Va.

The 15th Infantry Regiment completed its organization in September, 1861, at Lightwoodknot Springs, near Columbia, South Carolina. Its members were raised in the counties of Richland, Union, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield, and Williamsburg.
