Enlisted on 5/29/1861 at Goldsboro, Wayne County, NC., he was mustered into "D" Co. NC 2nd Infantry as a Private.
He died of disease in Fredericksburg, VA. Hospital.
William H. Norton, a local undertaker, submitted a burial bill of $15.
Priscilla Rasbury, his mother, living at Snow Hill, Greene County, NC, filed a settlement suit 12/1/1862 for $87.03, her son's pay for 3 months + 11 days duty and $50 bounty.

The 2nd Infantry Regiment State Troops was assembled at Garysburg, North Carolina, in May, 1861, with slightly more than 1,300 men. Its companies were recruited in the following counties: New Hanover, Wilson, Surry, Carteret, Duplin, Guilford, Sampson, Craven, Jones, and Pamlico.
