Doris Asselin, 86, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 31, 2003 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father John Kleinwachter presiding. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 - 5 Sunday, March 30, 2003 at Johnson Funeral Service Home, Oklee, MN with a 3:30 PM Prayer Service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Doris Marie Morrissette was born April 12, 1916 the daughter of Wilfred and Katherine (Brooks) Morrissette. She attended Oklee and Plummer Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1934. She attended Red Lake Falls Teachers Training and taught in a country school for a short time. She also worked at Duluth Hospital.
On June 12, 1939 Doris was united in marriage to Joseph Asselin. The couple farmed for 40 years and then moved into Oklee. Doris worked for Oklee Recreation for many years. Joseph passed away on November 1, 1993.
Doris was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and St. Ann's Society in Oklee. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, reading, she always sent birthday cards to her family members, and throughout the years she kept journals and family records.
Survivors include sons, James (Donna) Asselin, Covina, CA, Kenneth (Sharron) Asselin, Gilbert, MN, and Robert (Sharon) Asselin, St. Cloud, MN and Donald Asselin, St. Cloud, MN; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; twin sister, Dorothy Bolin, International Falls, MN; sisters, Beulah Peterson, Bemidji, MN, Isabelle Gribbon, Southgate, MI, Louella (Frank) Yelle, W. Covina, CA, and Marie (Dale) Stebe, Bemidji, MN; brother, Edward (Alice), Bemidji, MN; sisters-in-law, Arabelle Morrissette, Lucille (Marvin) Strande, and Mayme Berberich; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Joseph; parents; brothers, Maurice and Eugene; daughter-in-law, Mary Asselin; brothers-in-law, Earl Bolin, Leonard Peterson, and Edward Gribbon.
