United States Marine Corps General. A veteran of three wars, he served as Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. Raised in Connecticut he graduated from Ansonia High School, earned his degree from the University of Connecticut in 1942, and on September 26th. of that year was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Upon completion of his training at Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned to the South Pacific where he served aboard the U.S.S. Princeton, participated in the Tarawa Raid, and survived the October 24, 1944, sinking of his ship at Leyte Gulf. After the cessation of hostilities Jaskilka held assignments at Manchester, New Hampshire, Philadelphia, Quantico, and in French Morocco before being deployed to Korea. On September 15, 1950, then-Captain Jaskilka was a company commander with the 2nd. Battalion, 5th. Marines, when he led the first troops onto Red Beach as part of the Inchon Landing; for combat bravery in Korea he was awarded two Silver Stars and the Bronze Star. After the conflict he held a succession of assignments with the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific, as well as in Washington, DC, and at Quantico. Promoted to Brigadier General on October 18, 1968, he was transferred to Viet Nam in February of 1969. Upon his return stateside he served as Director of the Command and Staff College at Quantico, then as Commanding Officer, Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, prior to his 1974 final posting to Headquarters Marine Corps. Appointed Assistant Commandant on July 1, 1975, General Jaskilka received his fourth star on March 4, 1976, and retired on June 30, 1978. After leaving uniform he remained in the Washington area and in 1981 served as technical advisor to the movie "Inchon". He died of pneumonia complicated by advanced age. The General's awards include the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star.
