REV. J. F. BINGAMAN
Funeral rites for Rev. J. F. Bingaman, of Chariton, who died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Monday morning, Sept. 13, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 6 days, after an extended illness, wee held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Chariton Methodist church.
Dr. W. H. Meredith, pastor of the church, conducted the services, and was assisted by Dr. Geo. A. Lawton, of Des Moines, district superintendent, and Dr. M. A. Gable, chaplain of the Des Moines Methodist hospital.
A trio, composed of Mrs. Pauline Timmerman and the Misses Marguerite Dillman and Margaret Bowman, with Dora May Tinder at the organ, sang two hymns, "Whiter Than Snow," and "My Face Looks Up to Thee," which Rev. Bingaman often repeated during his illness.
Burial was in the Chariton cemetery. Six ministers served as pall bearers. They were Revs. O. G. Orcutt, O. W. Morrow, R. E. Harvey, E. A. Moore, Geo. A. Lawton and M. A. Gable.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Dora Bingaman; one brother, Daniel C. Bingaman; and one sister, Rachel Bingaman, all of Chariton.
Rev. Bingaman was born in Marion county, Iowa, near Columbia, and grew to manhood in that vicinity. He entered the ministry and became a member of the Methodist conference in 1902. He served the churches at Lacona, Davis City, Cromwell, Luther, Highland Park at Des Moines, Fifth Avenue church in Council Bluffs, Woodbine, Seymour, Griswold, Denison and Glenwood.
He retired at the latter place in 1933, and returned to this county where he lived on his farm a year and a half then came to Chariton where he had since resided.
