Mrs. Ruth H. (Hess) Grundy, 97, of 132 North Franklin Street, Waynesboro, PA entered into rest at 10:38 P.M. Friday, October 10, 2008 in Kline Hospice House of Mt. Airy, MD, following a brief illness.
She was born on October 27, 1910 in Waynesboro; she was the daughter of the late Albert Tydings and Mary G. (Tracey) Hess. She lived most of her life in Waynesboro.
Mrs. Grundy graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1928. She then attended Goucher College and Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA.
She and her husband, the late John C. "Jack" Grundy, were married in January 1947. Mr. Grundy died February 26, 1966.
She and her husband lived in Philadelphia, PA for several years, and while living in Philadelphia, she worked as a social worker for a number of years.
Mrs. Grundy was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church; Waynesboro; Waynesboro Country Club; Waynesboro College Club and the national AARP.
Mrs. Grundy was an avid Bridge player until her illness. She leaves many good friends, including Katherine Stevenson and Betty Jane Thompson.
She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Nancy Creager, Barbara Kercheval, Mary Ann Stepler, Richard Mikesell, Karen D. Bevier, Tracey King, Deborah Ellis and Delores Hess and the following great-nieces and nephews, Mark Creager, Jill Kessler, Jeffrey Kercheval, Edward Kercheval, Susie Bell, Howard R. Stepler III, Robert Stepler, Betsy Brown, Theodore Mikesell, Michele de la Rosa, Preston King, Ashley King and Margo Ellis and families.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Miriam H. Mikesell, Phyllis L. Duey, four brothers, Daniel W. Hess, Richard T. Hess, Harold A. Hess and Paul R. Hess.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 with Rev. Henry K. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
