Services for Thomas J. Brennan, 68, of Milan will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island. Burial is in the National Cemetery, with full military honors.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a Christian wake service beginning at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Brennan passed away Monday, March 13, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

He was born July 8, 1931, in Davenport, to Ralph J. and Marjorie Glynn Brennan. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949 and loved sports, lettering in wrestling and was a key member of a squad that produced four state champions in three years. Nicknamed ''Terrible Tom'', he placed second in the state tournament at 115 pounds.

After high school Tom joined the Marine Corps, serving in the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of sergeant.

In the fall of 1960, he married Nellie L. Mauch in Rock Island. On Feb. 12, 1968, Tom wed Thelma J. Gordon in Moline.

Tom was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 3 Jul 1958 - 15 Aug 1981, rising to the rank of assistant chief, retiring in 1981. He raised Standardbred horses, racing pacers at the Quad City Downs and at tracks outside Chicago and was a huge Notre Dame and St. Louis Cardinals fan all of his life. He developed a fervor for polishing and collecting rocks, right up until his passing.

He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island, where he had been an altar boy. Organizations he belonged to are the Rock Island Retired Firefighters Association and Rock Island VFW Post 1303 as a life member.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma; sons, James P. Brennan, Riverside, Ill., Benjamin R., Brennan, Troy, Mich., Steven A. Brennan, Washington, D.C.; stepdaughters, Gloria Schmacht, East Moline, Lori Dryden, Dallas, Texas; stepsons, Ronald R. Gordon, Bettendorf, John and Dave Gordon, both of Atlanta, Ga., Corey Gordon, Moline; a grandson, Nathaniel Brennan, Troy, Mich.; 14 stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Suzanne Brennan, Rock Island, Kathleen Mills, Culver City, Calif., and Mary Harness, Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents.
