George Carlton, 47, Seaton, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Aledo, where he was a member. Private family burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jinks Family Funeral Services, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the family.

George was born Aug. 3, 1950, in Moline, the son of Finace and Pauline Allsbrow Carlton. He married Lynn Verplaetse Dec. 26, 1970, in Moline.

He received his diploma in nursing through Lutheran School of Nursing.

He was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 7 Jul 1975 - 8 Jan 1980 and 30 Dec 1985 - 22 Feb 1990 and was working as an R.N. at East Moline Correctional Center.

He was a Sgt with the Army Rangers during the Vietnam War. He collected steins and cigarette lighters.

Survivors inlcude his wife; daughters, Kari Carlton and Rachel Carlton, Seaton, Kristee Carlton and friend, Frank Rosas-Morales, Milton, Wash.; a son, Seth Carlton, Seaton; a grandson, Devon Morales; his mother, Pauline Carlton, East Moline; sisters, Barb Norgren, Bettendorf, Elaine Littrell, Boise, Idaho, Betty Bowling, Moline, and Nancy Redden, East Moline; and brothers, Don Carlton, Englewood, Colo., and Jim Carlton, Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.
