Mr. Deardoff died Monday, April 21, 1996, at Moline Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Davenport, the son of Edward A. and Rose A. Schaeffer Deardoff. He married Elizabeth Snively May 18, 1946, in Davenport.
Member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 10 Oct 1952 - 20 Mar 1978, retiring as a captain after 26 years. He also worked for the former Birtman Electric Co. and former Downing's Dairy, both in Rock Island.
He was a charter member of the Rock Island Association of Retired Firefighters; he wrote the monthly newsletter for eight years. He was a member of Rock Island Conservation Club and Rock Island Family Campers, which he helped organize. In earlier years, he participated in minstrel shows at St.Mary's Church, Davenport.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving as sergeant. As a bombardier on a B-26 bomber, he participated in 62 missions and received 11 medals.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, making woodcrafts, painting ceramics and stained glass.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and John Little Jr., Milan; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Marla Deardoff, Rock Island; grandsons, Michael Deardoff, Matthew and Christopher Little; and stepgrandchildren, Ilya, Marlena, and Steven Voorhis.
