ROCK ISLAND - Services for Leo E. "Jake" Ford, 78, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marine Corps. Additional honors will be given by Rock Island Fire Department Honor Guard.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday with a wake service conducted at 7 p.m. at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.
Mr. Ford died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at his home.

He retired in 1971 as central station captain after 22 years as a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 8 Jan 1951 - 15 Nov 1972 and later was employed as a security officer at Rock Island-Milan School District.

He was born Sept. 19, 1918, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Helen Kiss in 1939 in Moline. She died Jan. 20, 1997.

During World War II, he served in the Marine Crops. He fought at Iwo Jima and received a Purple Heart.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Survivors include daughters, Kathy Elceser and Teresa Reeves, both of Davenport, and Lonnie Deibert and Laura Spidle, boih of Rock Island; sons, Mike "Ducky," Rock Island, and Leo, Milan, Ill.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
