Lieutenant August Brandt, Sr, 62, a retired member of the Rock Island fire department died at 1 o'clock this morning, 14 May 1937, in his home, 617 Ninth Avenue, Rock Island, following two weeks illness. He had been ailing six months.

Lieutenant Brandt was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 25 Mar 1915 - 1 Jun 1936 and retired from the fire department June 1, 1936, after serving 22 years. He joined the department March 25, 1915, was appointed a lieutenant August 10, 1931, and served as lieutenant at station No. 6 until retiring.

He was born on 12 Aug 1874 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William and Doris Mueller Brandt, and received his education in that city. He came to Rock Island about forty-five years ago. On 14 July 1898 in Davenport, Iowa, he was married to Miss Henrietta Yohe, born 29 Dec 1876. They were the parents of the following children: Lavina, Irene, Charles W., born ca 1900; Sylvia, born ca 1903; Enda, born ca 1908; Emma, born ca 1911; and August, 27 Nov 1919-February 1975.

Lieutenant Brandt was a member at Rock Island aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Evangelical Church of Peace.

Surviving are the widow, two sons, Charles William Brandt of Rock Island, and August Brandt, Jr., at home, three daughters, Miss Sylvia Brandt, at home, Mrs. Emma C. Ague of Rock Island and Mrs LaVina Anderson, Wahoo, Nebraska; five sisters, Mrs. Dora Brandt, Mrs. Augusta Hartung and Mrs Emma Bolton, all of Davenport; Mrs. Julia Giesler of Chicago and Mrs. Mary Seely of Scribner, Nebraska, and five grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Hodgson and Hoban Mortuary, and will returned home at 5 o'clock this afternoon. Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the home, with the Rev. Frederick J. Rolf, pastor of Evangelical Church of Peace, officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery, Davenport. Pallbearers are Walter L. Kolls, Fred B. Gibson, Joseph W. Burke, Curtis W. Crane, Hans H. Losand and Captain Edwin A. Lindbloom.
