Attempts of a Rock Island policeman to aid Curtis W. Crane, 59, of 3142 Tenth Street Rock Island, proved futile yesterday afternoon when he answered an emergency call. Mr. Crane, who had fallen in the snow, died of a heart attack according to Leslie H. Banning.

George Denby of 3145 Tenth Street, ca11ed police after he saw a man fall into the snow across the street from his home at 4:25 o'clock. Patrolman Kenneth Jaeke found Mr. Crane lying in snow near the front porch steps of his home. With the assistance of neighbors, the officer carried him into the house. Coroner Banning was then summoned.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Hodgson Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvin D. Suttie of Gloria Dei United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Big Rock Cemetery, Marvin, Mo.

A retired member of the Rock Island Fire Department, Mr, Crane was born Feb. 2 1892, in Barnett, Mo., a son of Palastine and Sarah Crane, He received his education in Barnett, and married Bessie Comer, Aug. 1, 1914, in Versailles, Mo.

Member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 16 Jun 1921 - 30 Jun 1944. At the time of his death he was employed as night watchman at Servus Rubber company, Rock Island.

Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Mrs. William M. Lovett of Rock Island; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas McDow of Barnett and Mrs. Ona Watson of Miami, Oklahoma; two brothers, Cap Crane of Barnett, and Ed Crane of St. Louis, and two grandchildren. His parents and a brother, preceded him in death.
