Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church Rock Island. The Rev. George Schroeder, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 Sunday night.
Pilllbearers will be Leo Ford, Bernard Nesseler, Ralph Wilcox, Thomas Brennan, Kenneth Stimpson. Robert Gray and Gene Rudd.
Mr. Aversing was born Aug. 29, 1918 in Rock Island, the son of Carl T. and Rose Meyer Aversing. He was a life resident.
He married Geraldine DePaepe Dec. 30, 1947 in Rock Island.
He was employed at the Royal Neighbors of America home office for the past three years. Prior to that he was a route man for King's Produce from 1951 to 1978. He was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 7 Jun 1946 - 20 Aug 1971, retiring as a captain.
He was a PFC and served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He was a member of the Association of Retired Fire Fighters.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Judith Carlson, Jayne, Janis, Jennifer, and Janine Aversing, all of Rock Island; two sons, Gary, Bettendorf, and Jeffrey, Rock Island; five grandchildren; a brother, James J., Rock Island, and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Pruden. Rock Island, and Mrs. Bernadine Lucas, Knoxville, Iowa, He was preceded in death by a sister and an infant son.
