Irene M. Thompson, age 95, of Bloomsburg died on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at home under the care of Columbia-Montour Hospice. Irene was a resident of Bloomsburg since 1944.
Irene was born on Friday, Dec. 23, 1921, in Carson, New Mexico. Following graduation from high school, she completed some college credits. She was a dietary technician and was employed by Bloomsburg Hospital for over 40 years until her retirement.
Irene was an active member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She enjoyed spending her time gardening and sewing, and she loved animals.
In addition to her parents and several siblings, Irene was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Thompson.
Survivors include her brother, Jerry Graves, of Tres Piedras, N.M.; and a nephew whom she raised: Jimmy Edwards (Suzie) of Pottstown.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Main and Iron streets, Bloomsburg.
A Requiem Eucharist will begin at 2 p.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Howard Sasser, officiating. Graveside committal services will follow immediately in Elan Memorial Park.
